OverDrive Selection

NOBLE OverDrive Collection: A Guide for Selectors: Google Doc | PDF — Overview of the NOBLE collection and the selection process

Getting Started with OverDrive Marketplace

This screencast is a basic introduction to searching the OverDrive Marketplace site, and includes information on working with carts. There have been a few small formatting changes in the record displays since this was made, but all of the functionality is the same,

Key points from the screencasts:

  • You should set up a default cart before you begin, and give it a name that starts with three letters in uppercase to represent your library: BEV, LFD, etc., followed be the code ALLOC or CONTRIB to indicate whether you are spending your library’s allocation or making a contribution. You can add other information to the end.
  • You can select new titles or add copies of titles we already own
  • Most titles are licensed so that we “own” them for as long as we have OverDrive. Some titles are licensed for a certain number of checkouts (for example, 26) or period of time (for example, 12 months.) You can select either type of title — it’s up to you to decide if the title is worth whatever the publisher is charging for the particular license.
  • You can’t submit your own carts — when you’re ready to send an order, please send an e-mail message to overdrive-orders@noblenet.org and I will make the submission. New titles and copies will appear in our collection within 24 hours.
