How to Move Files via FTP

Many web editing programs have a built-in save feature that utilizes the ftp protocol. Usually you have to configure the target by providing the system name (www.noblenet.org) as well as your username and password. In many programs, you can select Save As and then choose Add/Modify Internet Locations from the Save In drop-down menu. This will add the NOBLE web server to your list of Internet Locations where you can save documents. If you cannot figure out how to configure your web editing software to save documents to your website, please ask.

You can also use any FTP program. While these programs tend to be less convenient than saving directly from the document you are working on, they do allow you to send several documents to your website at one time, create folders to organize your web, and delete old files and folders.

Your Web Directory

Whether using FTP or your editor’s Save As feature, you will need to know the path to your web:
/home/httpd/html/yourweb
Where “yourweb” is the name of your website, as in www.noblenet.org/yourweb.
