Working with HTML and CSS Files from the List Maker

Using HTML files on Your Own Site

The List Maker creates an HTML file that you can download, copy and paste into a page template on your own site. In order for this to look right, you’ll need to download this CSS file and add it to your site. Depending on your site’s CSS files, this may need some adjustment. You can also edit this CSS file to change the way any element of the list is displayed. The List Maker adds classes for each element — author, title, etc., and the CSS file has these classes all set up so you can add your own style declarations if, for example, you want book summaries to be displayed in a smaller font and Italics.

List Maker Test Site

We have set up a List Maker HTML Test Site that you can use to experiment with the List Maker without worrying about accidentally publishing your experiments on your live website, needing a separate sandbox site, setting up any css files, or doing any configuration.

Just choose the HTML option and configure it any way you want, and open the file from the e-mail and copy and paste it into a new page on the test site. You should always use the WordPress Text mode for this — the Visual Editor is disabled on the test site.
