Creating Pattern Codes

Caption and pattern codes will be migrated from Millennium to Evergreen. Depending upon the accuracy of the data input when creating check-in cards in Millennium, and the format of this data when imported into Evergreen, it may be possible to generate pattern codes directly from this “legacy” data.

To do this:

  • Open Alternate Serial Control
  • Select the “Captions and Patterns” tab for your subscription
  • Click on “Import from Bibliographic or Legacy Serial Record”
  • Check the box that applies to your library
  • Click on “Import”
  • Click to check the record that applies to your library. Note: in this example, only one library subscribes to the title. In many cases, there will be a multiple holding libraries listed in this display

  • The pattern code will fill in
  • Click on the check box under “Active”
  • Then click to “Save Changes”

If the data migrated from Millennium is not formatted correctly, it will not be possible to generate a pattern code from it. In this case, you may copy a pattern code in JSON format from another source. NOBLE will maintain a list of basic caption and pattern codes on this page. You may copy and paste an appropriate pattern code from this page directly into the pattern code box on the captions and patterns page.

To use this method:

  • Go to Alternate Serial Control
  • Go to the Subscription Details page
  • Select the Captions and Patterns tab
  • Click on “Add New”
  • Find and copy the appropriate pattern code from the Evergreen support page

  • Paste the pattern code into the pattern code box

  • Click the check box for “Active”
  • Click on “Save”

The other method for generating captions and patterns is through the pattern code wizard. This method will be documented elsewhere.
