In some instances, you may wish to change the existing pattern code for a subscription for which you have previously received issuances. For example, the publication pattern for the title may change or you may wish to change from an enumerated display to a simpler chronological display. If you wish to change a pattern code you must do the following:
1) Open Alternate Serial Control
2) Select the “Captions and Patterns” tab
3) Create or copy a new pattern code
4) Change the existing pattern code to inactive by unchecking the “active” box or delete the existing pattern code altogether
5) Deleted any predicted issuances that have not been received and that should be patterned on the new code
6) Enter a new “test” issuance. This should represent the issue prior to the first issue that you will predict using the new pattern code.
For example, you may have a monthly subscription and have received issues through December 2012. If you want to change your pattern code beginning in January 2013, enter a test issuance for the December 2012 issuance. You will not receive that issuance, but the new pattern code will use that test issuance to predict new issuance beginning in January 2013.
