Minutes of September 12, 2000

Present: Marjorie Hill-Devine, Doug Rendell, Thomas Scully, Pat Cloherty, Dennis Kelley, Alyce Deveau, Camilla Glynn, Deborah Abraham, Ron Gagnon, Mary Rose Quinn

The meeting was called to order by Marjorie Hill-Devine at 9:40 am. The minutes of the September 7, 2000 NOBLE Executive Board Budget Meeting were approved as corrected.

The group discussed areas of the budget that required additional funding for FY 2002. It was decided that maintenance should be shifted from the base portion of the budget to the per port costs.

The Board also raised the issue of developing a budget that would provide for new and forward looking initiatives. The revision of the brochure, the work of the Electronic Resources Working Group, the

serials and acquisitions modules, and other system related opportunities were discussed. Discussion also focused on new memberships and branch assessments.

The Board reviewed the draft budget discussed at its September 7th meeting, which was revised to include additional financial resources in areas where new initiatives were likely including monies for cataloging

electronic resources, printing a new brochure, adding new III features and functionality, and updating Central Site services. The 2002 budget included a $500 credit to member libraries to lessen the impact of the loss of Bradford College.

The Board discussed increasing the number of member libraries and identified possible area libraries that might be interested in joining NOBLE. Also discussed was the impact of membership fluctuations on the

budget and budget process.

Tom Scully moved to accept the 2002 budget proposal and present it at the September 21st Membership Meeting. Doug Rendell seconded the motion. The Board approved unanimously. The third budget meeting for September 14th was canceled.

There was some further discussion concerning the brochure and the work of a membership

sub-committee. The meeting adjourned at 10:45 am.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Rose Quinn, Secretary

NOBLE Executive Board
