Established in 1982 and taking off in 1986, it is one of the
largest Chinese departments in a United States High School, with
an enrollment of over 75 students. The department is organized in six primary levels of study. These include beginning, accelerated beginning, intermediate, and advanced. The department also offers linguistics and classes in classical literature. All classes are taught in simplified characters. Andover also has a unique computer program designed to assist the student
in learning their characters.
