World Environment Day is June 5th

World Environment Day 2011 LogoThe United Nations has designated June 5th as World Environment Day. This year’s theme is: Forests: Nature at your Service.

  • World Environment Day — The United Nations Environment Programme’s official site for World Environment Day (WED) includes news, ideas for celebrating WED, “Forest Facts,” and information and materials for organizing your own local event.
  • Greenpeace USA — This site, from the well-known international non-governmental environmental organization includes articles, photos, and videos about environmental issues and Greenpeace’s activities surrounding them.
  • MassDep — This site from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection provides information for consumers about a host of environmental issues including: recycling; water, wastewater and wetlands; toxic hazards and air quality.
  • Essex County Greenbelt Association — This site highlights the ECGA’s activities to conserve land in Essex County, Massachusetts. It includes a map of conservation lands, announcements of current ECGA events.
  • Environment Massachusetts– Environment Massachusetts is “Environment Massachusetts is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization.” Their site provides news, information and reports on a host of issues including clean air, clean water, clean energy, environmental health, and global warming.
  • Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) — The ELM “is dedicated to protecting the health of our environment and citizenry by safeguarding the land, water and air of our Commonwealth.” This site includes a listing of key environmental issues, publications, and upcoming events.
