Gordon, Alan. Thirteenth Night

When my children were little they always wanted me to tell "the next day" when ever I got to the end of a story they liked. What happened the day after Snow White marries the Prince? This book does exactly that. It takes that neat ending Shakespeare provides and revisits the scene fifteen years later. The Duke has died, mysteriously of course, and there are rumors that Malvolio has returned to seek his revenge.

The story is funny and compelling with delightful characters. One treasure is a cameo appearance by the very young Francis of Assisi. If you like mysteries, Shakespeare and good writing you will enjoy this book. It's a first novel, I'm looking forward to an encore. After all Shakespeare wrote a lot of plays!
