Bacon, Charlotte. Lost Geography

Following four generations covering 50 plus years and moving from Saskatchewan to Paris, this first novel describes what daughters go through to make the emotional break from strong mothers. Beautifully written, the book has both wit and poetry. Charlotte Bacon, born in 1965 and educated at Harvard and Columbia, teaches English at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Her collection of stories, A Private State, was awarded the PEN/Hemingway Award for First Fiction in 1998. Definitely a writer to watch.

Charlotte Thompson, July 28, 2000.
