Legal Sources
"Do you have a copy of the state building code?"
"Where can I find information on non-compete clauses?"
"I'm looking for information on firearms regulations in Massachusetts."
Our collection of legal information includes the Massachusetts General Laws, the State Building Code, Wakefield's town by-laws, and more. Since these can be rather difficult to decipher, we also have numerous reference books that explain legal topics for the non-lawyer, in such subject areas as Mass. labor and employment law, family law, estate planning, landlord/tenant law, and domestic relations. We also have numerous general reference works on constitutional law, Supreme Court cases, law dictionaries and encyclopedias.
Many state legal sources are available online from various legal sites. One of the best organized is FindLaw, which organizes the online versions of state and federal law by subject and jurisdiction for easy access.
The library staff cannot interpret the law for you or give you legal advice, but we are happy to provide you with contact information for legal referral agencies. We can also refer you to the closest publicly accessible law libraries for information that we do not have in our own collection.
The nearest public law libraries are in Cambridge, Lowell, and Salem. You can access information about the state's public law libraries' services at the Trial Court Law Libraries web site. You can also search the online catalog of all the public Trial Court Law Libraries in Massachusetts.
