Consumer Information

"What's the book value on a 1996 Honda Civic?"
"Do you have a list of places where I can pick my own strawberries?"
"I need to buy a new vacuum cleaner. Do you have anything that will help?"

Our consumer collection includes a variety of books and magazines to help you make wise choices when buying, selling, maintaining, or repairing the things in your life. We have books to help you buy or sell a new or used car, and learn the strategies for negotiating the best price. We also have the NADA "blue books", which list current market values for cars back to 1984. We are happy to quote you a value over the phone if you know the make, model, mileage, and options of a particular vehicle. We have books that help you purchase a computer or peripherals, or learn about radon in your home.

We subscribe to Consumer Reports, Consumer Guide, and Consumers Research magazines which provide comparisons on many consumer products as well as general articles on consumer issues.

The Consumer collection is shelved next to the Reference Desk on the main floor.

You may also want to check out the following local consumer web sites: the State Attorney General's Office, the State Office of Consumer Affairs, and the Boston Better Business Bureau.
