Internet Access

The library provides graphical access to the Internet via 24 public workstations located throughout our building. These computers also provide access to all of our other electronic databases, including our periodical index and online catalog. Although the Library does not provide e-mail accounts to the general public, there are numerous free web-based e-mail services that you can access from our computers if you would like to send electronic mail.

All of our public computers are available first come, first served. It is not necessary to sign up. We have no set time limits on their use, but we ask that you be courteous to other library users and limit your searching to 15 minutes if other people are waiting. Three workstations in the Reference Area have been designated as "Express PCs", and you are asked to limit your use of those three computers to only 15 minutes to allow quick turnover for people who only need a computer for a few minutes.

Our public computers are all connected to high-speed (24 pages per minute) laser printers from which you may print. We ask that help us to conserve paper and ink by only printing what you really need. In order to help offset printing costs, we ask for a donation of ten cents per page printed. You may also download information to a floppy disk. If you do not have one when you are in the Library, you can buy a preformatted disk from us for one dollar.

Please note that the Library does not use filtering software on any of its public computers. Parents are expected to supervise their children's Internet sessions. The Library also has an Internet Access Policy which you may wish to read. In addition, the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE), from which we receive our Internet access, has its own internet usage policy, which applies to patrons using the Internet in the Beebe Library.
