Mark your calendars!
On April 12 & 13, 2008 Beebe Library, together with the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of the Library will host some very special events in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Beebe Library renovation.
A centerpiece of the weekend’s events is a themed flower show. Businesses, individuals, amateurs and professionals are invited to create a floral arrangement based on a literary theme or a favorite book. Those arrangements will be displayed in Beebe Library on view to the public throughout the weekend’s activities. Local floral designer Beth Hylan of Sweetbay is coordinating the flower show.
The Blossoms at Beebe Library flower show is only part of the weekend’s excitement. The two-day celebration includes a gala 21+ fundraiser on Saturday evening and an all-ages family day program of events on Sunday afternoon.
The Saturday, April 12 evening fundraiser (SOLD OUT!) will offer adults a spectacular evening of celebration with music by local classic rock band The Transistors, as well as dancing, a Wine and Beer tasting and a silent auction. And of course, you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful floral displays throughout the library.
Sixty percent of the event's proceeds will benefit the library's book fund. The remaining 40 percent will be used for the civic projects of the Chamber of Commerce.
On Sunday, April 13, the library will be open to all from 1-5 p.m. View the spectacular floral displays and participate in a number of fun family activities in addition to regular library service. A paper flower craft program will be held in the Youth Room from 2-4 p.m. and a family scavenger hunt will take place from 1-5 p.m. Additional activities are to be announced.
The Savings Bank is a major sponsor of the weekend's events.
The two-day Blossoms at Beebe Library celebration commemorates the ten-year anniversary of Beebe Library’s renovation project. The project started in 1995, when Town Meeting approved the project plans. The $5 million renovation project was designed to incorporate functions that are now standard in the library’s architecture – access for the disabled, increased collection space and increased capacity for technology. The project also expanded space in the Youth Room and created a “teen” space. The renovated building opened to the public in March 1998.
The Beebe Library interior was redesigned by local resident Cheryl Webb Scott, who selected fabrics, furnishings and colors to complement the library’s original structure.
