Reader’s Advisory or What to Read Next

eSequels

eSequels is a guide to novels in series. Look up your favorite author to get a complete list of their books with annotations. It also indexes character, location and subject as well as author and title so you can identify a series that you may remember. And last,  eSequels lists the novels in the correct reading sequence so you can begin at the beginning rather than blunder into the middle of “Act III.”  To use this resource you must have a library card that starts with the numbers 2 1996.

Book Groups

AFTERNOON TEA AND BOOK

Would you be interested in a day time book club at the library? We started an afternoon book club meeting the third Tuesday of every month at 1:00pm. Books, both in regular print and large print, are available at the Main Desk. Participants read the book before the meeting and have a wonderful discussion about the book. Light refreshments are served. There is no sign-up or long-term commitment. Meetings are held in the Baldwin Room, next to the library’s Reference Desk. Every few months, participants will help select upcoming titles. With winter coming, an afternoon book group is a great way to get out even with the days getting shorter.

Book Discussion Group

This group meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third or fourth Tuesday of every month at the Swampscott Public Library. Izzi Abrams, one of our librarians, leads the group in wonderful, thought-provoking discussions. Books that are discussed range from fiction to nonfiction, biographies to young adult literature, and beyond. Please contact Izzi Abrams at 781-596-8867 if you have questions about this group. New members are always welcome.

Dinner Detectives

This group meets at 6:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month at the Swampscott Public Library. Each participant reads a different mystery title on a common theme, which changes monthly. If you enjoy mysteries, join us for an evening of lively discussion. You can bring a brown bag dinner and the library will supply coffee and dessert. Contact Susan Conner or Alyce Deveau at 781-596-8867 if you have questions about this group. New members are always welcome.

Brunch Bunch Book Group

Join us at noon for a book discussion/playgroup time. Moms can have salad and coffee while they discuss the month’s selection and children can have pizza and juice/water and play or do a craft. This is a novel way to host a book discussion group but we thought it may answer the needs of some of our patrons. The group will meet in the Children’s Room and three staff members will be present.
