NIGHT AT SPIRIT OF 76-2

On Thursday, February 16th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, the newest bookstore in town, Spirit of ’76-2, will donate a percent of its proceeds to the Friends of the Swampscott Public Library. No coupons necessary. The Friends will get an automatic share of all purchases during that time period. So buy yourself a belated Valentine’s Day gift and support the library at the same time. Valentine Making

Tuesday, February 7 at 3:00 p.m. we will offer our annual Valentine making program.

Children ages 5 and up are invited to make some fabulous Valentines. We will supply paper, doilies, stickers, glitter & glue. No registration is needed.

Swampscott Library Teen Advisory Board & Hope for Creativity

The Swampscott Public Library Teen Advisory Board will be collecting art supplies for local charity Hope for Creativity throughout the month of February. Hope for Creativity puts together art packs for homeless children.

Here is the wish list of the new items that Hope for Creativity collects:

Construction Paper – Crayons (thick and regular)- Markers -Glue sticks- Rulers- Watercolor Paints -Finger paints -Kid’s Scissors – Oil Pastels -Pens – Play-doh – Modeling clay -Small canvas ( 5×7) -Colored pencils -Journals – Pencils – Erasers- Sketch Books -Doodle pads- Notebooks -Pencil sharpeners- Drawing paper- Glitter glue

The Teen Board will have a collection box in the library lobby as well as in the Swampscott Middle School and Swampscott High School. Thank you for your support of this effort.

Reach Out and Read

In February, the Swampscott Public Library will once again collect new or barely used children’s books for a local “Reach Out and Read” Program. The goal of this program is to promote reading at a very early age. These books are donated to the Lynn Community Health Center. To make a donation, please bring your children’s books into the library and deposit them in the brightly colored box in the lobby. Please feel free to call the library for more information.

TAX PREPARATION

Volunteers from the AARP’s Tax Aide Program will be at the library Tuesday afternoons from February 7th through April 10th to help people fill out their state and federal income tax forms. Appointments are required for this service. Appointments can be made by calling the library (781-596-8867 ext. 304) starting Monday, January 23rd. Please bring your completed tax forms from last year and any pertinent forms or statements that have been mailed to you this year when you come to your appointment.

Winter/Spring Story Programs

Learning to grow through story & song.

Mondays at 10:30 A.M. for ages 2 to 4

Wednesdays at 10:30 A.M. for ages 1 to 3

Begins the week of January 30.

A story time program that is perfect for groups of siblings or friends. This activity consists of stories, songs and finger plays and action rhymes designed to encourage early literacy. Librarians will present 20 to 30 minutes of stories and songs that will tickle, delight, and amuse. After Storybook Fun the children are encouraged to play and socialize. All ages can join in the fun!
All children attending this program must be accompanied by a parent or other adult who will sit with them and participate in the activities. No registration is needed.
There will be no programs during school vacations or when school is canceled.

OPEN PLAY GROUP.
Fridays at 10:30 A.M.

Ongoing program.

Parents with children ages 6 months to 2 years are invited to come to the library for an open play group. No formal program is presented, just a chance for the little ones to come to the library and enjoy the puppets, bead mazes, and board books. This is a great opportunity for new moms to connect with other families. No registration is necessary.
