Wild Reads

The theme of this year’s Statewide Summer Reading Program is: “Wild Reads at your library!” We would like to encourage all children from infants to age 12 to register for the reading program. Children who are able to read on their own are asked to read a minimum of 15 minutes per day. For children unable to read alone we have a Read-to-Me program, where each child is asked to listen to a book for 15 minutes per day. We will have all of the recommended books from the summer reading lists available here in the Children’s Room. See our page for Summer Reading Grades K to 5 for a complete list of all the books. (Books for the Middle School and High School are located in the Reference Room).
Each child who registers for the program will receive a bookmark and a special reading log, and the first 50 children to register will receive a special “Bee a Reader” pin. The logs this year are designed to record your reading time in 15-minute increments, with space to record your favorite book titles. At the end of July we will host a special Reading Rewards Party for all children who participate in the reading program. This party will include entertainment and a make-your-own sundae table.
We are again offering on-line registration for this program, where you can keep track of your reading time as well as read and write book reviews. Go to http://www.readsinma.org/swampscott/ to sign up. Registration for the reading program will begin on June 2 and continue through July 11. This is a great way to participate in the program if you are away for part or all of the summer as you can log in on any computer.
Wild Reads at Your Library, the 2008 Statewide Summer Reading Program, is funded by your local library, the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
