What we offer
We offer a variety of services for parents and children from birth to age 12.
Visiting the Children’s Room:
Young children can enjoy our puppets and puppet theater to “produce” some imaginative shows for their parents and friends. There are two small bead mazes as well as a bead table where they can explore color, shape and movement. We also have some child friendly furniture, just the right size for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
Older children can enjoy lounging in our rocker chairs while reading books or magazines. We have several computers available to children in 6th grade or younger which offer games, Microsoft word, and internet access to educational sites and children’s reference databases.
Children under age 12 who are able to print their first and last name may obtain their own library card. A parent or guardian must sign the application form, and the first card is free. Replacement cards are $1.00., and may be obtained at the main desk.
The Children’s Room has a computer catalog which allows searching by keyword, author, title and subject.
Books for younger children are located in the front of the Children’s Room. We have a general section for picture books as well as separate collections of ABC books, Counting books, Concept books, Reading Rainbow books, Toddler books and Board books. There are also books for beginning readers, paperback picture books and read-along kits comprised of books and cassettes or CD’s.
Books for older children are located in the back of the room. Fiction is arranged alphabetically by author along the outside walls. Non-fiction, paperbacks and videos are in the stack aisles. DVD’s, audiobooks and music CD’s are located in separate cases.
Please do not hesitate to ask us for assistance in finding materials.
