Ongoing Groups Meeting in December
Practically Speaking English
This program is a chance for our Russian population to come in and practice their skills in communicating in English. The group will be lead by a non-Russian speaker to encourage members to only participate in English. The group will meet Tuesday mornings from 10:00am to 11:00am.
Kindle Fire Help
Help using overdrive on your Kindle e-reader will be available on Tuesday mornings from 10:30am-11:30am. Call the library and reserve a 30 minute spot to have one-on-one help with your Kindle Fire.
My Book is Better than Your Book
A new book group will begin on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am. If you’re someone who loves to pick out your own books and enjoys sharing what you have read with others, then this is the book group for you. Participants can come to the library and discuss a book that they particularly liked with other readers. Everyone can discuss their individual books and make suggestions to the other members. Refreshments will be served.
Join the Needlers a knitting group at the Swampscott Public Library. This group meets weekly, every Wednesday at 10:30a.m. Crocheters are welcome to join our group. We make our own projects or items to be donated to charity. Members can be beginners or experts.
Computer Club: Technology Travelers
Do you feel left out when people begin talking about Facebook, or social networking, Internet, emails and Pinterest? Would you like to become part of the 21st century? Then join our computer club. It meets on Thursday mornings from 10am -11am. This club is basically for all the newcomers to technology; so don’t feel intimidated if you don’t know how to access any of these sites. Come in and learn with others who want to become computer literate. It should be a fun group with no pressure, just some exposure to all of these new things that are around for us to see. This, however, is also a club where those knowledgeable in technology might want to come by and share their knowledge with others. You can join any time. Just come by the library at 10:00am on Thursdays. The library is closed, so just knock with your keys on the door and we will let you in.
ADDITION TO THE COMPUTER CLUB
From 11:00am-12:00pm there will be an additional group who will meet to set up accounts on individual websites. The computer instructor will help individuals set up an email account, join Facebook, join Pinterest or any other social network that individuals are interested in joining.
No preregistration required for either of these groups.
Brunch Bunch Book Group
Join us at noon for a book discussion/playgroup time. Moms can have light lunch and coffee while they discuss the month’s selection and children can have lunch and juice/water and play or do a craft. The group will meet in the Children’s Room and three staff members will be present. Our selection for Monday, December 30th at noon will be The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. You do need to register for this group so that we can order the books and the food. Come and give it a try, we think that this may be an enjoyable way to spend a lunchtime. To register call Alyce or Izzi at 781-596-8867.
The Dinner Detectives, the library’s mystery book group, will meet on Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:00pm and the topic will be Trees and Mysteries. New members welcome–just bring your dinner & mystery book.
The History Buffs will be meeting on Friday, December 6th at 10a.m. Anyone interested in local history is welcome!
AFTERNOON TEA AND BOOKS
