All memberships created or renewed prior to September 1, 2009 will be honored for the remainder of this calendar year. Anyone who has joined or renewed their membership after September 1, 2009 will have an active membership through September 30, 2010. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support as we make this transition.
Author of the Month: Avi

Avi was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1937. We can’t tell you much about his unique name except to say that his sister, Emily, so dubbed him at age one and it stuck. When he was young teachers told Avi that his writing didn’t make any sense. Little did they know he had dysgraphia, a learning disability that makes writing difficult. Yet, with boundless talent and the encouragement of an understanding tutor, Avi kept writing.
He lives in Denver, Colorado and he was once a children’s librarian. He didn’t begin writing books until he had children of his own. Today, he is the prize-winning author of Cripsin, the Cross of Lead (Newbery Award for 2003), The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, Nothing But the Truth (both Newbery Honor books, and dozens of other popular books for young readers.
