The Children’s Room at the Salem Public Library is home to lots of fun, educational, and inspirational materials to use both within and beyond the library!
We have books for all ages and reading levels, audiobooks, music CDs, movies, puzzles and magazines to check out. We also have toys, computers and an iPad to use in the library.
When the weather’s nice, our courtyard is a great place to play and meet new friends. Inside, we’ve got plenty of places to sit, snack, work and chat.
Our story times, book groups and activities are always free, and are offered year-round. Our programs are designed for age groups ranging from newborns to teens. Please check the website, or ask a librarian, about specific times and dates.
Our greatest resource is our friendly and knowledgeable library staff. We are always available to help answer questions and find materials. We’re open to suggestions, so let us know if there’s something you’d like to see at the library.
Ms. Laura can be contacted in the Children’s Room at 978-744-9667 with any questions or concerns.
Ms. Laura, Head of Youth Services
Ms. Laura runs our Individual and Family Book Clubs, as well as our Time for Twos storytime. In addition to reading, she loves cooking, gardening, and hiking with her husband and her dog, Henry.
Ms. Simone, Assistant Head of Youth Services/Head of Young Adult Department
Ms. Simone runs our Young Adult Book Club, as well as our Library Explorers storytime. She is an avid reader, baking enthusiast, and lover of all things cute and furry (and most things slithery and scaly). A native Martian, Ms. Simone came to Salem several years ago as part of an interplanetary librarian exchange. When asked what she likes most about Earth, her answers are “chocolate, really soft pillows, and oxygen” (in that order).
Ms. Suzie is in charge of our Spanish collection, and she also runs our Tuesday Preschool storytime.
Jen has worked at SPL for 20 odd years, splitting her time between the Reference Department and the Children’s Room. She has always loved both! She loves doing music with kids as well as leading her one-year old story time, “Tiny Toddlers”
