How do I get a library card?
  • To register for a library card, please come to the main circulation desk.
  • You will need to show us a photo I.D. and proof of your current address.
  • High school students must show their student I.D.
  • If your I.D. does not have your current address, you will need to bring in something that has your name and new address to show proof of residency. For example, a bill, checks, a lease, or a letter that has gone through the mail
  • We will ask you to fill out a registration card.
I recently moved - how can I update my address?
  • Bring in proof of your new address to the main circulation desk and ask the librarian to update your record.
Do I have to be a Salem resident in order to get a library card at the Salem Public Library?
  • No. A patron card will be issued to any user requesting one without regard to city of residence if they do not already have a public library card currently in the NOBLE system.
  • You may only have one public library card in the NOBLE system.
May I use my Salem Public Library card at other libraries?
What are your loan rules? What are the fines on overdue items?
  • You must have your library card or a picture I.D. to check out any materials.

Are there any limits on the number of items I can check out at one time?
  • The only limit is 8 movies (Videos and/or DVDs) from our library checked out on your account at any one time. Otherwise, there is no limit to the number of items that you may check out.
How can I renew items?
  • Materials may be renewed at the library, by phone, or over the Internet using a PIN.
  • Phone renewals require your library card number and/or the barcode number of each item you wish to renew.
I need to get a PIN (personal identification number). How do I do this?
  • You may request a PIN for your library account at the Circulation Desk. This will allow you to access your account through a library catalog computer or at www.noblenet.org.
  • Once you enter your library card number and PIN you will be able to view your record, renew items, and place requests for materials.
Do you have a book drop?
  • Our after-hours book drop is located to the right of our main entrance and can only be seen when the wooden doors are closed.
  • Items returned in our book drop before we open will be treated as if they were returned the previous day.
