Last year, through a generous grant from the Fred Towsley Murphy Fund, the OWHL offered copies of Danah Boyd’s It’s Complicated to all interested PA faculty and staff. Last fall, we hosted a combination reception/book discussion, and the attendees gave the event rave reviews.
Consequently, by popular demand, we again are dedicating funds from the Fred Towsley Murphy Fund to support the purchase of a community read. We will make copies of The History of Rock ‘n’ Roll in Ten Songs, by Greil Marcus, available to the first 75 faculty/staff members who submit a request. In September, the OWHL and the W.B. Clift Music Library will jointly host a “Fridays at Five” adults-only after-hours party in the OWHL for the purpose of socializing with other bibliophiles and listening to the songs featured in the book.
To request your copy of The History of Rock ‘n’ Roll in Ten Songs, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the Circulation Desk to add your name to our list. One book per family, please.
