Nearly every night when we close the building we find someone’s iPhone or iPad. We keep these devices at the Circulation Desk until their owners come to retrieve them. In fact, there is often a cacophony of alarm clocks between 7 and 7:30 a.m., as the temporarily homeless devices attempt to wake up their absent owners.
Here is a trick we learned to help us reunite these devices with their owners. Even if the device’s passcode feature is enabled, you can ask Siri, “Who owns this phone?” Be careful to phrase the question properly; Siri gets confused if you ask, “Whose phone is this?” As long as you are understood, Siri will return the device owner’s name and contact information. Our next step: Loan students our label maker and have them put their name on their device!
