Out of the Blue, WoFo, Asia Society, Alianza Latina, Asian Women Empowerment, and PA Democrats invite you to join us Tuesday, April 3, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Freeman Room for “Immigrants, Adovocates, Fighters.,” a presentation featuring Attorney Tram Nguyen and State Representative Juana Matias.
Nguyen, a legal aid attorney running for state representative, fled Vietnam with her working-class family, embracing the American values of hope, opportunity, and freedom. If elected state representative, she aspires to work toward ensuring the 18th Essex District has affordable health care, resources for children with special needs, mental health services, and environmental protection, as well as toward defeating the opioid crisis. According to Nguyen, “If we, as lawyers, don’t try to understand discrimination and step up to end it, then who’s going to do it?”
Matias, a state representative running for Congress in Massachusetts’ Third District, is one of Massachusetts’ first Latinx state representatives. Raised in Haverhill by her immigrant family, Matias has firsthand experience with the socioeconomic challenges hard-working families face. She has served as a social worker and a Justice Americorps Legal Advocate, and is dedicated to protecting Dreamers, public education, universal healthcare, reproductive rights, and more.
All members of the community – students, faculty, and staff – are welcome to attend.
