n addition to academic materials, the OWHL also offers fiction and pleasure reading selections for young adults, tweens, children and babies.
Located on the main floor of the library, our children’s corner has picture books, family-friendly films, comfy chairs and puzzles. Thanks to an Abbot grant, this excellent collection includes all of the winners of the Newbery Award and the Caldecott Medal. Two memorial funds for past members of the PA community, the Kathryn S. Crawford fund and the Marilyn O’Brien fund, also support the collection. If you are looking for a book for a particular age group check the color coded strip on the spine of the books. The purple strip is for kids 0-3. The orange strip is for early readers 4-6 and the blue strip is for middle readers 7-9.
Books for tween and young adult readers are located on the main floor of the library in Stacks 2. The Tween Collection ranges from early chapter books through middle grade reads. The Young Adult Collection contains both fiction and non-fiction pleasure reading books. There is also a separate Graphic Novel Collection with titles for children, young adults, and adult readers.
The OWHL purchases a book in the honor of each new baby born or adopted by a faculty or staff member of the Academy. These books are plated with the name of the honoree and are kept in the collection for the enjoyment of all.
