The rains finally arrived today, and with them, the predicted interruptions of electricity.  During the night, the power kept cycling on and off, as the hotel’s generator kicked in whenever the power failed. the air-conditioning would cycle loudly.

When the power returned, the fax machine (my hotel room has it’s own fax machine) beeped loudly.  Unused to this odd symphony, I slept little.  I was afraid that I wouldn’t wake on time, and assumed that the power interruptions would affect the alarm clock—but in fact the hotel has some system for resetting all of the in-room clock radios so that the correct time is displayed despite the power failures.

I worked for 16 hours today—two of them in meetings with Nooruddin.  I rose early and developed an outline for the workshop.  Chris offered to meet with Nooruddin to tell him that providing a workshop was outside my scope of work.  We did talk about it, but it was clear that there is simply too much momentum around the workshop.  I have decided to just try my best to put a program together.
