Articles

Selected print indexes (in Reference Room) and periodicals (2nd floor):

  • Applied Science & Technology Index (1980 - 2002) [REF] Z7913 .A65

Print and Electronic Periodicals :
The library subscribes to a number of chemistry journals in print. These are located in the Periodicals Room on the second floor of the library. There are also many full-text electronic journals available in the library's online databases. For a complete list of the library's periodicals holdings in both formats, go to Journal Finder. Here, you can search by title or subject for all print and full-text electronic periodical holdings.

You can search for a particular periodical by title by using the McQuade Library Catalog.

Annual Reviews
The library subscribes to several annual reviews in print which circulate and can be found on the third floor of the library. These secondary sources are helpful in that they provide articles which summarize and evaluate current research in a particular field of study. They also include lengthy bibliographies.

Selected journals, magazines, newspapers and electronic texts on the Web:

  • Chemistry Journals Cambridge University Chemical Laboratory provides links to chemistry journals on the Web.
  • The National Academies hyperlinks provide access to the free full-text of thousands of e-books published by the National Academies Press as well as journals, news articles, and other publications.

Search these databases to find articles:

  • EBSCOhost is a collection of databases that provides indexing and selected full-text to a
wide variety of subjects, including the humanities, science, business, medicine, and education. Academic Search Premiere, MEDLINE, and Biomedical Reference Collection databases may prove helpful. The ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) database from the U.S. Dept. of Education may be useful for teachers of chemistry. It contains citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals, as well as full-text of more than 2,200 digests.
  • INFOTRAC is a collection of databases covering general reference, literature, health, business, science and more. Some full-text is included. Try Expanded Academic ASAP.
  • ProQuest Science With coverage dating back to 1986, ProQuest Science Journals features over 490 titles—with more than 380 available in full text.
  • Wiley Interscience allows searching of full-text of over 300 leading scientific, technical, medical, and professional journals published by John Wiley & Sons.

  • Chemical Abstracts (via STN Easy) covers all areas of biochemistry, chemistry, and chemical engineering. This database contains records of documents reported in printed CA from 1967 to the present. Current sources include over 9000 journals and patents from 26 countries. No-full text articles. On campus only.
(Important Note: This is a sophisticated database and may not be appropriate for introductory information. Try the other sources mentioned above first. Also, due to our database licensing agreement access is limited to after 5:00pm weekdays and weekends. Students must get login and password from their professor or a reference librarian.)

  • Scientific American Archive Online contains the entire editorial content of Scientific American with all special issues from January 1993 through to the present---updated monthly. The issues are presented as PDFs (Portable Document Format files), which maintains the integrity of the printed page ---including all the graphics. via EBSCOHost

  • Project MUSE is a unique collaboration between libraries and publishers providing 100% full-text, user-friendly online access to over 300 humanities, arts and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers. Every journal is heavily indexed and peer-reviewed, with critically acclaimed articles by the most respected scholars in their fields. MUSE is the sole source of complete, full-text version of titles from many of the world’s leading university presses and scholarly societies."

  • American Chemical Society Journals: "Explore a vast, dynamic world of indispensable, original chemistry. With ACS Journal Archives, you have fast access to 120 years of the most cited chemistry research."
