General Information

Circulation Services
Below is a summary of some basic Circulation Services. Consult the Circulation Policy for a complete explanation of all Circulation services and guidelines.

Borrowing & Renewals Merrimack College students may borrow circulating books for 30 days and DVDs for 5 days. Reference books, periodicals and newspapers do not circulate. A current, valid Merrimack College ID card must be presented to check out materials. Books are due back to the library on or before the given due date. McQuade Library books may be renewed twice before being returned unless a hold request has been placed on the book, in which case the book is due by the date specified on the recall notice. Renewals may be made in person, by phone (978-837-5215, x4215), or by e-mail (mer@noblenet.org). You may also renew materials online (see View Your Account for more information).

View Your Account Students with a valid Merrimack College ID card may set up a PIN/Password from the Circulation Department. With this password, you can login to your library account and place holds, renew materials, and view your circulation record online. Reserves Some professors will place material (for example, books or photocopied articles) on reserve for their classes. These materials may be borrowed by any Merrimack College student to be used in the library. Students must present a valid Merrimack College ID card to borrow reserve materials. Students may check out up to five reserve items for two hours at a time, with a maximum renewal period of an additional two hours. Course reserves that are in high demand will not be renewed, thus allowing other students the opportunity to utilize the material. Overdue or Lost Materials
Up to three overdue notices will be sent to a borrower for any item that has not been returned by the due date.

Patrons will be billed for items not returned after overdue notices have been issued. The billing policies can be found below:

Lost or damaged McQuade Library books should be reported to the Evening Library Services Manager as soon as possible. A $50.00 fine for all lost or damaged materials will be charged to the patron’s account and must be paid immediately at the Office of the Bursar. A refund of fines will be made if items are found and returned to the library within one month of a bill being issued.

Reference Services

Reference Assistance Reference Librarians are available at the Reference desk to answer questions, provide research guidance, and assist with the use of print and electronic resources. Reference assistance is also available by telephone (978-837-5215, x4210), or online (via E-Reference Form or through Instant Messanger). Research Advisory For more in-depth research needs, the Research Advisory Service offers students the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a librarian to get help with library research.The librarian will talk with you about your assignment and the type of information you need, and then guide you to appropriate databases, indexes and other library resources that will be most relevant for your search, and show you how to use them. Interlibrary Loan Materials not available at the McQuade Library may be requested through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary Loan Request forms are available at the Reference desk and online. Please consult the Circulation Department Policy for a complete description of your responsibilities when borrowing Interlibrary Loan materials.

Media Services

The Media Instructional Services department offers students a number of services related to video production, audio production, photography, television, and a circulating collection of films on videocassette. For more detailed information, visit the Media Center Home Page.

Library Facilities
