McQuade Library Art Gallery Policy

  • The Director of Media Instructional Services will act as curator for the McQuade Library Art Gallery, performing scheduling and signage tasks, as well as determining the aesthetic value of proposed exhibitions.

  • The primary purpose of the library art gallery is to promote and display the work of students at Merrimack College, who are producing art for or related to fine arts classes. The gallery will provide exhibition time for fine arts students to fulfill the senior thesis exhibition requirement of the fine arts major.

  • A secondary purpose of the library art gallery is to provide a means to exhibit the work of area artists who may in some capacity provide the experience of viewing and talking about art in relation to fine arts classes. These artists may also give talks and guest lectures in classes to make interdisciplinary connections with departments other than Fine Arts, such as Women’s Studies, Sociology, Communication Studies, Religious Studies, and others.

  • Another purpose of the library art gallery is to provide space for travelling exhibitions, which may have historical or sociological value to the Merrimack student.

  • RESTRICTIONS: Due to the highly visible nature of the exhibition space and its central location on campus, the exhibition of works with sensitive content will be severely restricted. The Director of Media Instructional Services will be solely responsible for determining whether or not any particular art is acceptable for display. No further recourse will be available to the artist once this determination has been made.
