Patrons will receive $2.00 off any overdue fines for every food item donated. Boxed cereals, canned fruit and vegetables are each worth $4.00. There is a particular need this year for canned fish and meats, rice, beans, peanut butter, canned pineapple, and diapers. All donations will support Haven for Hunger in Peabody. Please do not bring in any perishable or expired items.

Last year, the Library collected over 1,000 food items. To participate, please bring all food donations to the Lynnfield Public Library. Certain restrictions apply. Join Yetti Frenkel on Monday, November 16 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a haiku and card-making workshop.

Participants create haiku poetry and illustrate their poem in a folding card. One hour is spent on learning the haiku form, exploring simile and metaphor as inspiration for writing poetry, and writing and editing a poem. In the second hour, participants will create a card that illustrates their haiku poem. Ms. Frenkel will cover visual arts topics such as design, illustration techniques and materials.

Kids 12 and up are welcome to attend. No registration is required.

Bill Sano returns in November for four lectures and selected music of some of the great Russian composers — Borodin, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and several others. Mr. Sano sets the music of these composers against Russian life in the latter part of the 19th century, helping us to understand what makes Russian music so, well, Russian.

Meetings are free and open to the public and will be held at the Meeting House on the Common Tuesdays in November from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The theme of the first lecture, taking place Tuesday, November 3, is “Everybody’s Favorite Russian Composer: Tchaikovsky”.
