Library receives "Picturing America" grant

The Lynn Public Library is pleased and proud to announce that it has received the Picturing America grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities and the American Library Association. Picturing America grants are part of the NEH's We the People initiative, which aims to encourage and strengthen the teaching, study and understanding of American history and culture through libraries, schools, colleges, universities, and cultural institutions.

The display is being prepared to be shown around the central rotunda, with a rotation of works as the year progresses. The Lynn Public Library, Board of Trustees, and Friends group have spent the last year making a commitment to restore and hang several art treasures the Library owns. This grant brings greater focus to that endeavor.
A night of art and metaphysical messages at the Library

An Evening of Metaphysical Messages with the Medium Linnea will be held Sunday, September 28 from 3-7 pm.

Come view the art on the walls and the artistry of the readings by Linnea. Light refreshments will be served.

This event is a fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the Public Library Fund, which is supplemented by matching money by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Tickets are $15 and are available at the library or through the mail with a $1 shipping fee. Contact the library at 781-595-0567 or lynnq@noblenet.org for more information.
Serving patrons of decertified libraries
At their meeting of June 26th, the Lynn Public Library Board of Trustees voted to no longer serve patrons of decertified libraries.

The City of Lynn has shown the political will to prioritize the library, and the Trustees strongly encourage the administrations of other cities and towns to do the same.

This policy is effective Tuesday, July 1, 2008.
Mother Goose on the Loose at the Lynn Public Library
Mother Goose on the Loose is an early literacy program that uses rhymes and songs to help pre-reading children get ready for reading. It incorporates music, movement, ritual, repetition, and props into a fun-filled thirty minute session for children with their parent or caregiver.

The Lynn Public Library is pleased to offer this program several times weekly. Check our calendar for dates and times.

This program is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the state of Massachusetts
