ZDNet’s IT Facts blog often has some interesting trend information. One interesting thing they just posted is the top health-related searches on prescription drug-related sites.

“Depression was the top-ranked therapeutic area with 2.9 million unique visitors. Bipolar disorder and insomnia ranked second and third with 1.8 million and 1.7 million unique visitors, respectively.”

The list is interesting from a collection development point of view– just another way of knowing which topics are important to people in general and therefore our users. The fact that they are measuring searches on the prescription drug sites rather than general sites may skew the topics a bit. I’d really like to see this kind of information for our catalog and from EBSCO and our other database providers.
