The New York Times College Readership Programs use newspapers and related resources to enhance the educational environment and overall college learning experience. It is designed to nurture and develop the next generation of leaders.
Widespread distribution of newspapers to convenient racks on campus and in common areas encourages students to pick up and read a newspaper on a regular basis. Studies show that ease of access is one of the top factors influencing student readership.
Every day, 100 copies of the New York Times will be distributed across the campus. Students will have the opportunity to stay current in world events, while faculty will have another vehicle to stimulate critical thinking through assignments and activities that also ‘foster a climate of civic engagement’ on campus. BHCC Faculty: If you are using the New York Times in your class and would like to have a copy for you and your students, please submit a syllabus to John Ryan at ryanja@nytimes.com. Questions? Contact Kevin Finnigan at kfinnigan@bhcc.mass.edu.
Furthermore, the New York Times will provide a very resourceful website with articles, events listings, projects and news from across the spectrum of Higher Education colleges (see: www.nytimes.com/college).
Getting Started: With the Spring Semester “Keeping up with the Times” begins again! 100 copies of the New York Times will be delivered to the BHCC Charlestown and Chelsea campuses.
