Resources for BHCC Nursing Faculty and Students

Nursing Links

  • allnurses.com! -- directory of different nursing Web sites that includes such areas as schools of nursing, nursing employment, and specialty discussion forums.

  • NursingNet -- includes forums and Webboards for practicing nurses and student nurses. This site also includes information on nursing organizations, education, employment, references, and nursing students.

  • NurseWeek -- provides career information that includes job fairs, job searching, and career advice. This site also provides education information including online courses.

  • Nurses Professional Cybernurse.com -- interactive links to clinical specialties, nursing careers, nursing schools, electronic newsletters and journals.

  • RNWeb -- produced by the Medical Economics Company this Web site includes an Article Index for RN magazine 1996-1999, education, career, legal, management resources, and other topics in nursing. The site also provides access to Nurse's PDR Resource Center -- which has a Drug Database.

Nursing Organizations

  • American Nursing Association (ANA) -- the U.S. professional organization representing registered nurses through its constituent state associations and organizational affiliate members. The ANA serves as an advocate for the nursing profession and fosters standards of practice and supports the well being of the nursing workplace.

  • National League for Nursing -- the primary focus of the National League for Nursing (NLN) is to develop nursing education standards and examinations in the United States. NLN is also the main accrediting body for nursing education programs within the U.S. and its territories. The Web site also includes information on the NLN Nursing Education Research Grants Program.

  • American Association of Colleges of Nursing -- nursing education resource that includes accrediation, government, and news about nursing education in the United States.

  • National Institute of Nursing Research -- supports clinical and basic research; this site includes information on funding and programs.

  • The National Student Nurses Association -- a voluntary organization where membership is open to students in all nursing progams leading to registered nurse licensure; this includes pre-nursing students and students enrolled in associate degree, diploma, and baccalaureate programs.

  • Transcultural Nursing Society -- focuses on the cultural aspects of nursing care worldwide. The site includes an online Index of Articles for the Journal of Transcultural Nursing; also provides information about the Society and related Web links.

    The Journal of Transcultural Nursing and other nursing publications are available from the BHCC Library. Take a look at Health & Medicine Titles from the BHCC Library Periodicals Subject Index to find subscription format and coverage of these titles.

  • The Board of Registration in Nursing -- the Board of Registration in Nursing for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This local site includes frequently asked questions and provides links to national nursing certification boards and commissions as well as links to other nursing associations.

ARTICLES

The BHCC Library offers online resources for obtaining article citations and abstracts as well as full text articles in the field of nursing.

EBSCOhost is an online subscription service that contains the databases CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) w/Headings and Comprehensive MEDLINE with FullTEXT with MeSH

-- CINAHL is updated monthly by EBSCO and is produced by CINAHL Information Systems. Coverage starts in 1982 and includes over 1200 nursing journals as well as citations from related allied health field publications. The database CINAHL w/Headings includes journal title listings and subject headings, and the option to limit your search to full text articles. Note that many of the full text articles are restricted to bibliographic citations.

-- Comprehensive MEDLINE is updated monthly and citation coverage starts from 1966 that includes article listings from International Nursing Index and from Index Medicus.

A useful feature of EBSCOhost allows for similtaneous database searching.

Please note that for access from your remote location you need to enter your BHCC Library 14-digit ID number.

InfoTrac Web is another online subscription service available from the BHCC Library. It contains the database Health Reference Center-Academic which contains article citations and abstracts as well as full text articles on nursing and allied health topics.

Checkout the BHCC Library Periodicals to see if the Library subscribes to the journal you're looking for. Also look at the BHCC Library Periodicals Subject Index --you will find nursing journals listed under "Health & Medicine."

If you have searched the BHCC Library Periodicals (print and online) and not found what you're looking for you may find the journal (or other publication) is available at one of the other NOBLE (North of Boston Library Exchange) consortium libraries. Use our InterLibrary Loan Request Form for Journal Articles http://www.noblenet.org/bhcc/ILLjour.htm to request a copy of the desired article from another NOBLE library.

To find a book use the Bunker Hill Community College Library WebCatalog.

Search by Subject for Nursing Topics.

Use the Academic Catalog to see what materials are available from other NOBLE consortium college libraries Academic Catalog.

Use the Full Catalog to search all NOBLE college and public library holdings Full Catalog.

When searching the NOBLE online catalog if you find a book at another NOBLE library use the InterLibrary Loan Request Form for Books http://www.noblenet.org/bhcc/ILLbook.htm to request the desired title.
