BHCC Library & Learning Commons Mission Statement

Libraries are becoming learning centers with reading materials, digital resources, social connections, and trained specialists, which enable students to engage meaningfully with a wide variety of information, and pursue enjoyable reading interests improving their literacy, social, and information competencies.

Libraries should not be 'sacred' space dedicated to honoring the book, nor a warehouse of shelves; rather the library of the future should be a dynamic interactive organism dedicated to honoring and respecting the student and community.

The BHCC Library & Learning Commons aims to establish five different ways to help students, faculty and staff access resources of the library, guided by the Transformation and Learning Model:

  1. The Reading, Reflection, and Writing space.
  2. The Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) space.
  3. The Professional Studies (Business, Legal/Paralegal, Arts, Culinary/Hospitality) space.
  4. The Music and News space.
  5. The Archives and Exhibition space.
