Circulation Procedures
Most materials are due 14 days from the date of checkout. Items may be renewed twice, if another person has not requested them. Renewals may be made in person at the Circulation Desk, over the telephone, or online using a PIN (Personal Identification Number). Instruction for obtaining PINs is available at the Circulation Desk. All reference materials, recent periodicals (within one year of publication), are for use in the Library only. The Student ID card also acts as the Library Card once it is activated at the Circulation Desk, and can be obtained in E144. Students may not check out materials if they do not have a valid library barcode. The borrower's account must also be in good standing, with no outstanding fines or fees.
Reserve Materials
Specific works chosen by faculty for use during the semester may be placed on Reserve. All Reserve Materials available at the Circulation Desk must be used in the Library. The Reserve lists for individual courses are accessible through the online catalog. Cassette playback units are provided for use in the Library only.
Adaptive Library Services
The Library is accessible to all and individuals using wheelchairs will find tables of acceptable height, restrooms with accommodations, and an accessible entrance directly opposite an elevator. Among the equipment and accommodations available to people with disabilities are the following:
* Talking Book Program
* Cassette players with earphones
* Applications for recordings for the Blind
* The Disability Reserve Folder
* Wheelchair Accessible Study Tables
Students, or faculty and staff, with special needs should contact the library staff to learn more about available accommodations.
Other Services
BHCC is a member of the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE), which extends the borrowing privileges of students to 27 local area libraries (9 academic, 17 public, & 1 special library) and beyond. Their catalogs may be searched via an Internet connection. Materials may be borrowed through the BHCC Interlibrary Loan Service. Ask at the Reference Desk for more information on Interlibrary Loan.
The Internet is available in the Library for research purposes. Many PCs in the library provide Internet access. The Library Catalog can be found online at http://catalog.noblenet.org/search~S37. The Library's website is found at http://www.noblenet.org/bhcc.
Overdue Materials
An overdue fine of $0.10 per day per item will be assessed for materials returned past the due date. Overdue notices will be sent followed by a bill for the item(s) not returned to the Library. Overdue fines continue to accrue until all overdue items are received at the Circulation Desk and processed through regular Library channels. Only then will all fines be cleared and the patron be allowed to borrow materials again. All materials that are not returned by the last day of Final Examinations each semester will be treated as overdue and notice will be sent to the Student Payment Office.
Damaged or Lost Materials
Report damaged or lost materials as soon as possible to the Circulation Desk to prevent fines from accumulating. Charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed as follows:
1. Accumulated fines, if any.
2. Price of book as listed in current edition of Books in Print (or comparable source). If prices are not listed, the following charges will be made:
*Hardbound Books-------------------$25.00

*Cassettes-------------------------$50.00
*Vertical File Materials-----------$10.00
