FIND A BOOK IN THE LIBRARY

BHCC Library online catalog is the tool to find a book in the library. Access to the catalog is available on and off campus at http://catalog.noblenet.org/search~S37/

Search for a book by Author, Title (if citation is available), Keyword or Subject (for searching by topic/subject) At the result screen with titles listed, select a title you need, and click to view Call Number. Copy Call Number to locate a book on a shelf

All library books are classified and shelved according to the rules of the Library of Congress Classification System. Each book has its own LC Call Number.

Call numbers may have prefixes, representing different collections of books in the Library. They are as following:

REF - Reference books (in Reference Desk area)
ReadEnr - Reading Enrichment: Children's' books, ESL and developmental readings
FRR - Faculty Resource Room: (ask student worker to page a book)
Index - Index shelves (next to Reference Desk)
NEW - on the shelf with sign NEW BOOKS (books have red stickers and located next to the window)
Media - CD-ROM collection (ask at the Circulation Desk)
Reserve - Course Reserve books at Circulation
Audiopack - book with a tape for easy reading located at Reading Enrichment
Chelsea - located on Chelsea campus

e.g. The Book of American traditions:

REF GT4803 .A2 B66 1996:

REF - located in Reference; in library use only
GT-- subject: Customs
4803 - corresponding number to the specific subject on tradition
.A2 - geographically attributed to North America
B66 - "cutter number" representing title/author
1996 - date of publication 1996
