INTERNET LINGO
Internet
- The Internet is someting you can't touch. It is basically the term used for computers communicating, because they are linked together all over the world.
World Wide Web(WWW)
- The "Web" is the mass of information on the Internet. Picture a spider's web and you can picture a mass of information that leads you to more information...known as the World Wide Web.
Web Site
- A web site is a location you can access by its address on the web. You can visit to gather information about anything you could imagine. We will learn how to access and visit job/career web sites.
- For example www.jobfind.com is a URL, an address for a web site.
Search Engine
- There are several search engines on the Web to help you find what you are looking for. You don't need to use them if you know the web site address. You use a search engine if you are browsing through different topics, but don't know exactly where to go.
Hypertext Links
- Sounds fancy but these links are just an easy way to go from one site to another. Remember - the Web is made up of millions of files of information connected by hypertext links. When you point to a link on the screen using the mouse, the mouse's arrow turns into a hand, CLICK, surrounding the www page on your screen is a browser. When you need to go back to the previous screen, click on BACK on the browser toolbar. The BACK button will help you navigate your way around the Web.
