Hospitality Curriculum and Library Resources
The BHCC Library and Learning Commons is connected to one of the most extensive research library consortia in New England library systems. The BHCC Library contains approximately 74,000 items in our physical collection including books, newspapers and AV materials and 30,000 Electronic Resources including full text magazines, journals and serials. The BHCC library also contains specific resources for students in the Hospitality department.
The Librarians at BHCC work collaboratively with the Hospitality department on a number of occasions, including collection development and information literacy. These sessions have led to strong student support and relations between the Library and each academic department. The BHCC Library offers information literacy instruction engaged in basic and developmental research, technology development, and the opportunity to establish a sustained level of comfort and working relationship with academic resources. The Wired for Success program offers a range of services and facilities designed to foster the development of new students—particularly those that make use of research technology to support their academic goals. The strength of the program lies in its ability to couple the systematic and technical capabilities of Library resources with the expressed needs of the student and BHCC academic community as a whole.
The BHCC Library and Learning Commons believes that transferring information literacy skills, (iSkills) developed while a student is enrolled at BHCC, to the marketplace is an important means of fulfilling the institution's mission to prepare our students for 21 century Careers. To accomplish this mission, the BHCC Library works with faculty and students who wish to disclose ideas, suggestions, and challenges that may be of benefit to the development of additional resources.
BHCC Library & Learning Commons also provide access to information for all members of the college community. The Library recognizes that its responsibility is to identify and maintain the academic and technical standards that are fundamental to providing quality resources while ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities. Wherever possible, the Library ensures that all of its resources, viewed in their entirety, are accessible; selects among equally effective methods of accommodating persons with disabilities and refers persons with disabilities to the appropriate department with requests for accommodations that exceed those currently possible at the library.
