Charlestown High School Project
FACING HISTORY AND OURSELVES

Background

We have also looked briefly along the way at individuals and groups who have resisted and fought back against these atrocities. You now have a chance to investigate in depth a movement in which people organized to fight oppressive systems and societal injustices in an effort to create a more free an equitable society. You will also have the chance to develop your own thesis and form your own argument about the movement. (A bit of intellectual freedom which will, along with being hard-work, be very rewarding and perhaps even a little fun.)

Your Assignment

You will write a 5-7 page research paper about a revolution or freedom movement in
world history .Your paper will be an argumentative thesis-based research paper that offers a detail exploration of your chosen movement. You will develop your own thesis statement that will dictate the focus of your paper. You may chose to focus on a particular leader of the movement, the philosophy of the movement, the success or failure of the movement, etc.. In addition, you must be sure to give general background and history on the country in order to contextualize the movement.
