Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobiological disorder "which affects many aspects of a person's life. Attention span difficulties, distractibility, impulsivity and restlessness are the cornerstone this disorder. Over the years ADHD has been referred to by many different names. The purpose of the book is to help explain a wide variety of behaviors using the images that the SPECT (single phopton emission computerized tomography) provides. These images show that many problems long thought of as psychiatric in nature are actually medical that can be treated usng medical models, along with psychological and sociological models. This is an easy to read book, both in content and format. It explains what ADD and ADHD are and the various ways to treat these disorders. It is a good book to begin with when learning about ADD and ADHD and it contains a glossary in the back of the book.

This book discusses the pros and cons of ritlin and lets the reader know that although ritlin can be very helpful, it is never the complete answer for the person with ADHD.

Describes the person with ADD as a hunter who moves quickly; makes a decision out of necessity in haste and the non ADD person as a farmer who carefully plants the seeds, waters them and patiently waits for the harvest time. Today there are fewer places for the hunter and so the hunter must learn how to conform to the world of the farmer. This most likely takes place in an office setting where one sits; attends meeting and must go through lengthy processes before making decisions.
