HP Predictions!

Well, the 21st has come and gone, and that means that the winners of the predictions contest from the Harry Potter party in July have been announced! We gave out first, second and third place prize packs full of various Harry Potter goodies, some of which I brought all the way back from London.

If you didn't win - no worries. Some of the scores were pretty close to each other and to be honest, my own predictions definitely wouldn't have won me anything either if I'd been able to submit a sheet. :D

For a bit of a giggle, though, I have here transcriptions of the anonymous silly predictions people submitted at the party. After all, we all knew that wasn't going to happen...

"Harry will die and Voldemort will be the king of the world."

"Everybody will die!!!"

"Harry defeats Voldemort, and the last line of the book is 'And then he woke up, and it was all a dream.'"
"Fred & George get married."
"Voldemort kills lots of people and is all 'Ooooops! My bad.'"
"Hermione gets pregnant."

"Harry will die!"

The last one I just had to scan and post in its original form because I can't possibly convey its gentle, persuasive poetry in any other way:

And heck, if I don't believe it when you tell it to me like that!

Thanks, everybody. :D
Check back for fall programming - coming soon!

Yaarrrr! Here be PIRATES!!

Well, I missed sending out a reminder to you all about our showing of Curse of the Black Pearl yesterday afternoon, but I still have time to remind you about NEXT Monday!

YA MOVIE and CRAFT
(Our last program of the summer! *sniff sniff*)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Monday, August 27th
1 to 4pm
Sohier Room

The craft? CD fish. Don't know what those are? Come for snacks and the movie and find out!

We had a great time yesterday decorating t-shirts and watching the first Pirates movie. I personally can't wait until I can do the finishing steps on my t-shirt transfer and see how it turned out. Ah, the wonders of goo! :D

I hope everybody's t-shirts dried well, puffy paint included. Just remember to be patient and give it a good while to get really set up. Feel free to come by and show me your shirts once they're done and I hope to see you at the next program!

Young Adult Computers

If you've been in the YA section at all lately, I'm sure you've noticed that we have 2 BRAND NEW computers for games right near the door to my office. We have the Library Friends to thank for the money to buy these computers as well as the games that are on them, so much appreciation goes to them.

We have quite a few updated games, including Sims 2, Black & White 2 and Battle for Middle Earth 2. Some of the old favorites have been loaded on as well, like Starcraft and NHL 2002. Please keep in mind that some of these games may not function exactly as they would on your home computer due to the security issues we have with making the computers usable by the public.

If any games have weird problems, don't work at all, or if there are any games that you'd really like to see on the computers, let me or one of the other librarians know, and we'll do our best to fix or get what you ask about if at all possible.

HAPPY GAMING!

You may have already heard about this one from my babbling account of programs for August, but here's a reminder for you all:

Two of our reference librarians have graciously agreed to help me out with this and they'll be the ones instructing you all. If you have supplies, please bring them. There will be a limited number of needles and skeins of yarn provided by the library. Crocheters may come as well!

Cookies will be served. All teens 10 and up are welcome.

Call me at 978.921.6062 or stop by the YA office with any questions.

ZOMG - Two weeks in a row!

Don't worry - I'm not letting the fact that I am actually updating again go to my head. ;) So here's the news for today-

As many people who have talked to me know, Harry Potter is one of my personal hobbies/obsessions and with the new movie and new book released within a week & a half of each other, this summer has been all about Harry Potter.

Why am I babbling about this? Well, this is my round-about way to get to a THANK YOU to everyone who attended the series of Harry Potter programs we put on this summer. We had a wonderful response to the movie showings, especially for the Goblet of Fire showing/pizza party on opening night for Order of the Phoenix. The party for the release of the book was even more amazing - 33 people attended! That's the most I've ever had for any program besides the poetry contest this past April. So thanks guys! I can't tell you how great it was to see all of you here at the library.

For those of you who did attend the Harry Potter party and left any of your lunch bag puppets behind, you may have noticed that the windows of my office are now decorated with HP characters made of brown paper. Come by and take a look. I'm hoping to post some pictures of them here in the next few days, but for now, here's a teaser:

*Failz at teh Internetz*

OK, so obviously I haven't been doing the best job keeping this blog up to date so far, but I have a certain measure of determination that if I actually schedule myself on a weekly basis to update here with something - anything - that I might actually succeed at this. So, bear with me, folks!

We have a bit of a random line-up of programs coming this month, starting on Monday, August 6th, and I'm hoping that at least one of them might interest each of you. Here's the schedule for the next few weeks:

Harry Potter Book & Movie Chat
Monday, August 6th, 2-3:30pm, Staff conference room (4th floor)
We'll be discussing the 7th book and the 5th movie and, naturally, we'll have some snacks around to take away the sting of actually having to talk about a book. ;)

Teen Knitting for Beginners
Wednesday, August 15th, 1-2pm, Barnet Gallery
We'll have several people on hand to help you learn how to knit or give you a refresher. We'll have limited supplies available, so if you have any to bring with you (both yarn and needles), please do so! Also, if crocheting is your thing instead, you are still more than welcome.

MOVIE: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Monday, August 20th, 1-4pm, Sohier Room
A bit different from our other movie showings this summer, this is going back to the style of periodic movie-and-craft programs I hosted during the last school year. Pirate-themed t-shirt decorating is the craft this time around. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SHIRT(S) TO DECORATE!

MOVIE: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Monday, August 27th, 1-4pm, Sohier Room
Once again, this is a movie-and-craft program, but this time we'll be making CD fish. If you don't know what those are, you aren't alone - come, find out, and make one of your own. Feel free to bring along any old, unused music and/or computer CDs for use in this craft.

That's it for now. I'll be trying to make slightly more detailed reminders for each program as it gets a bit closer to the time they'll be happening and any of you who are already on the mailing list (snail or email) should be receiving stuff. If you haven't, please let me know.

Please check back here for details on all stuff YA-related. I just have to remember to type it out and put it up here! :D

Any questions? Call me at 978-921-6062 or stop by the fish bowl that is my office. Cheers!
